Our research in experimental pharmacology and cellular signal transduction focusses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of drugs involved in inflammatory and immunological processes. Immunopharmacological concepts, and particularly the characterisation of potentially novel immunomodulatory drugs, such as Toll-like receptor modulators and immunoregulatory peptides, are at the core of our research activities. Current research also focusses on the regulation of inflammatory responses by lysosomotropic drugs and endogenous damage-associated molecular patterns at the molecular level. For our studies, we use human cellular models, including immune cells as well as reconstructed organoid tissue models, which are established and developed as alternative test systems in pharmacological and toxicological research.
