Anti-ageing and increased mental capacity by cannabis
A low-dose, long-term dose of cannabis can not only reverse ageing processes in the brain, but also has an anti-ageing effect. BIGS DrugS member PD Dr. Andras Bilkei-Gorzo together Researchers from the University Hospital Bonn (UKB), the University of Bonn and a team from Hebrew University (Israel) have now been able to show this in mice. They found the key to this in the protein switch mTOR, whose signal strength has an influence on cognitive performance and metabolic processes in the entire organism. The results have now been presented in the journal “ACS Pharmacology & Translation Science”.
Bayer AG Thesis Prize 2023 & BIGS DrugS Kick-Off Meeting
As is now a tradition, the PhD Award Ceremony took place as part of the BIGS DrugS Kick-Off Meeting on July 1st.

As in previous years, Bayer AG, in cooperation with the Pharma Center Bonn and the Limes Institute, awards three prizes for outstanding PhD theses in the field of pharmaceutical research in 2023.
Carolin Keip received Poster Award at the Annual Meeting of the DGKPha
BIGS DrugS PhD student Carolin Keip received the Poster Award of the Dr August and Dr Anni Lesmüller Foundation for her poster with the title „Entwicklung von Instrumenten zur Qualitätssicherung von Medikationsanalysen in öffentlichen Apotheken“ at the Annual Meeting of the German Society of Clinical Pharmacy (DGKPha) on November 19th, 2023. Congratulate on this award!
Carl Wilhelm Scheele Prize for Dr. Tobias Claff
BIGS DrugS graduate Dr. Tobias Claff received one of the two Carl Wilhelm Scheele Prizes 2023. The prize is awarded annually by the "Deutsche Pharmazeutische Gesellschaft" (DPhG) and  honors outstanding doctoral theses.
Anna Böhmer wins Poster Award at the DPhG Annual Meeting
BIGS DrugS PhD student Anna Böhmer won a Poster Award at the Annual Meeting of DPhG (German Pharmaceutical Society) in the section Clinical Pharmacy for her poster presentation titled "Prioritisation and Identification of Adverse Drug Reactions in routinely collected electronic data sources during hospitalisation: A RAND survey". Her award was funded by the Dr. August und Dr. Anni Lesmüller Foundation. We congratulate her on this outstanding accomplishment!
BIGS DrugS Retreat
The two-day retreat of the BIGS-DrugS class 2021 took place at the beginning of September 2023 at the youth education center Haus Altenberg. The PhD students presented their posters and explained the scientific methods of their working group. Two exciting guest lectures, a role play and a social get-together completed the program.
Bayer Thesis Award 2022 & BIGS-DrugS Kick-off Meeting 2023
Bayer AG, together with the Pharma Center Bonn and the Limes Institute, awarded the PhD prizes for the year 2022. The award ceremony was part of the BIGS DrugS Kick-off Meeting for the new BIGS DrugS class. In addition to the award ceremony, the scientific program included lectures by the awardees and another outstanding young scientist, the presentation of the BIGS-DrugS training program, and poster presentations. Afterwards all attendees celebrated with a beer tapping.
